Today is Thursday, October 2nd, 2025. And we begin with Chunk the Champ. The grizzled veteran was crowned Fat Bear Week winner, after what Catmine National Park in Alaska says, was a record-breaking week of public voting. More than 1.5 million people weighed in on the competition, which was designed 11 years ago to create public awareness about the bears and their ecosystem.

32 Chunk earned 96,350 votes, despite suffering most of the season from a broken jaw, which some

feared would hamper his ability to fish and fatten up, but he persevered and plumped, beating

runner-up Bear 856 by more than 30,000 votes.

Chunk was described in The Guardian as the most dominant brown bear on the river

and captivated voters who watched him gain girth beyond what anybody could have possibly imagined with that injury.

The beloved Blue Angels may be grounded during San Francisco's Fleet Week if the U.S.

government remains offline due to the government shutdown, but our friends to the North may help

save the day. As of this recording, Republicans and Democrats in Congress remain stuck in a stalemate that is impacting

federal workers, including the Navy's aerial aces who are set to perform starting Sunday.

But there's word that Canada's version, known as the Snowbirds, will still participate.

Fleet Week typically draws more than a million visitors, according to the San Francisco Chronicle,

and this year will celebrate the U.S. Navy's 250th anniversary.

Organizers say the festival will go on with international ship tours, concerts, and performances,

but that attractions involving the Marine Corps and Navy would likely be suspended.
