Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori. Today is Thursday, October 1st,

2020 and we begin with residents up and down the East Coast waking up yesterday to

a bright burst of light streaking across the

early morning sky. Hundreds of witnesses took to social media posting videos and

images of what looked to be a blazing fireball.

One Twitter user describes seeing an asteroid fall out of the sky

and then explode while others marveled at its fiery red, green, and blue colors. So far, there's no official explanation

for the unidentified flying object, but an American Meteor Society spokesman believes it was most likely a random unexpected meteor no bigger

than a softball.

It was also all eyes on the sky on the other side of the Atlantic when a loud Sonic boom thundered over Paris.

It happened yesterday when a French fighter jet traveling at supersonic speed broke the sound barrier.

The deafening blast shook buildings along with some nerves,

but there were no reports of damage.

The resounding roar did bring the French open play

to a standstill.

Players in a second round match held their rackets

as the noise ripped through the empty stadium.

But it wasn't the only incident to rock the tournament.

Just an hour before, three-time champion Serena Williams

pulled out of the contest citing an Achilles tendon injury that left her

struggling to walk. She says she'll likely sit out the rest of the year.
