And we begin with the US Supreme Court doing what it traditionally does on the first Monday of October, open its new term, but it will do so this time, down one justice.

The nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, the judge who might fill that open spot, is on hold for one week while the FBI

looks into his past. Specifically, they're trying to determine whether he

disrespected women during high school or college. The findings will be turned over to the Senate

which will then decide whether he is qualified to serve on the nation's highest

court. The existing eight justices are not waiting. They'll hear cases

with or without a ninth member.

There's a new top pumpkin for North America.

A New Hampshire man grew a gourd weighing 2,528 pounds, which breaks the old American record by 165 pounds.

The great pumpkin Commonwealth, the global body that sets the standards for giant pumpkin growing

says it's not only the biggest pumpkin ever grown on this continent

but it only falls a hundred pounds short of the world record holder

grown two years ago in Belgium.

Not even Facebook CEO escaped its latest hack.

Mark Zuckerberg says he and two of his top execs were among the 50 million users compromised in its latest security

breakdown.

Facebook blames a problem in its code for allowing outsiders to enter and control other people's

accounts.

The issue has reportedly been fixed.

Facebook says it does not know who the hackers were

or where they were based.
