I'm thinking about where I was when the first plane hit the towers and where I was later

when they began to fall.

Oh my god, so both towers are now.

It seemed impossible.

How something so permanent could so quickly cease to exist.

I'm thinking about the fear that I felt from my family, from my friends, for the city

and country that I love.

Then the uncertainty and terror of those days and first few months that followed.

The creeping dread of another attack always looming.

Then I project myself forward through the years, then decades, through time and space

itself, always wondering how the choices I made, some random others deliberate, led me

to Donald J. Trump.

Now the fear has come back home to roost in the worst possible way.

The country seems on the verge of coming apart.

The center will not hold.

Almost 200,000 people dead.

I wanted to always play it down.

I still like playing it down.

The economy in rooms are cities, royals with violence.

I am the least racist person.

For 11 years I was president Donald J. Trump's personal attorney and fixer.
