Today's story is special because it's an origin story.

And everybody loves a good origin story.

You look back at great characters.

People like Batman.

Batman loses his parents in an alley and declares a war on crime.

Superman, he's flung from his exploding planet as a baby and sent to Earth to protect it.

An origin story like Dorothy Z Abornack, her marriage falls apart and she takes on three

roommates, Blanche Sophie and Rose, and they form a sassy quartet known as the Golden Girls.

Love that. Well today we're going to examine a real life origin story.

It's the origin story of Israel, the nation itself. Todd and I are going to introduce you, a listener, to a man named Abram, a man of faith,

but also a guy who, like all of us, has shortcomings. So today we'll discuss one of his greatest

triumphs and one of his greatest failures.

Let's begin with scene one and we've titled this, who's your daddy and his daddy and who's

his daddy? Our story starts at the very beginning of time. God

created Adam and Eve. They lived in perfection in the Garden of Eden and had the unique distinction of knowing God face to face

But then tragedy strikes

Genesis chapter 3 records the fall of man as Adam and Eve choose to disobey God and must face the consequences.

So instead of living in perfection and uniquely close relationship with God as he intended,

Adam and Eve are forced out of their home, and by doing so, by sending, they introduce

all sorts of problems upon the earth. Things like pain and childbirth, the burden of working

the soil, the stupid hitchhiker is a stick to your genes when you walk through tall grass and people look at you and they think you don't take care of yourself, but you totally take care of yourself.
