Summary

In chapter 1 of the Book of 1 Samuel, we meet Hannah. At this point in her life, her husband is not enough to bring her joy. She is overwhelmed by her barrenness and prays to God in her distress. 0:42.3	stories that together tell a much larger story. The larger story, we never want to forget this,
0:48.8	is the entire history of our redemption, with Jesus as the ultimate hero. Now, the book of 1st Samuel falls in the
0:56.3	historical books of the Bible. The historical books follow the five books of the law. For a
1:01.8	categorization of all the books of the Bible, we will put the Old Testament and New Testament
1:06.5	book charts in the show notes. All right, who is the author of First and Second Samuel?
1:11.5	Well, like last season, the Book of Ruth, we just don't know for sure. First and Second
1:15.4	Samuel were originally one book. We do know this. So the story in First Samuel continues
1:21.9	in Second Samuel. So consider this overview kind of for both. Now, when did this story in first and second
1:29.2	Samuel take place? Somewhere between 1100 and 1010 BC. And I will put also in the show notes a Bible
1:37.4	timeline chart so you can see kind of where it lays compared to all the other books of the Bible,
1:42.7	which are not always in chronological order.
1:45.4	All right. Well, who is Samuel? Samuel is so interesting because he was a priest, a prophet,
1:52.0	and he was the very last judge of Israel. So if you were with us two seasons ago, you know that
1:57.2	we studied the book of judges, which talked about the 12 judges, six greater, six smaller.
