So this particular set of chapters contains some of the most exciting stories that we get in the Book of Mormon,

0:09.0

where Nephi is being guided by the Lord and Lehii and the family as they go down through the wilderness

0:18.0

to work their way out towards the seashore where they're going to

0:21.8

then build the boat. In chapter 16, you'll notice we have finished up his conversation

0:29.6

in chapter 15 with his brothers, Lehman and Lemuel, and notice verse 1 of chapter 16. It came to pass that after I Nephi had made an end of speaking to my brother,

0:41.3

behold they said unto me, thou hast declared unto us hard things more than we are able to bear.

0:49.3

This is interesting because you can look at this idea of you've given us hard things. We can't

0:59.4

bear them. The question is, is that a reflection of the things that Nephi taught or is it

1:08.3

a reflection of our, of the condition of our heart? If your heart is hard,

1:15.1

then it doesn't matter what the prophets of God say or speak. It's going to feel difficult.

1:22.3

It's going to feel harsh. And he points that out in verse 2. It came to pass that I said unto them that I knew that I had

1:29.0

spoken hard things against the wicked according to the truth. And the righteous have I justified

1:34.2

and testified that they should be lifted up at the last day. Wherefore the guilty taketh the truth

1:40.0

to be hard for it cutteth them to the very center. If you struggle with listening

1:47.7

to the words of our church leaders, the knee-jerk response for the natural man and the

1:54.2

natural woman inside of us is to point fingers at the leaders and say, you shouldn't say

2:00.1

such harsh things. Whereas

2:02.9

Nephi is inviting us to go and take a look in the mirror and say, let me analyze my heart,

2:08.3

the condition of the hardness of my heart regarding these teachings and ask the question first

2:14.8

from the New Testament, Lord, is it I that needs to make some adjustments?

2:21.2

Because again, the natural man wants other people to make the adjustments, to soften things

2:27.3

up. But the Lord wants us to first look at the inner vessel and soften the heart and then move forward on the covenant path.
