It's 15th birthday for Behind the Black.

We turn to space exploring.

The other half of Bob's genius is to go where nobody understands.

And right now we're going to go to an x-ray burst, gamma-ray,

burst, supernovas. What have you... Yeah, what's happened is the astronomers using a plethora

of grounded space-based telescopes, tracing what they call a fast x-ray burst. These are fast

bursts of x-rays. They don't know exactly what causes them, or at least they didn't. They

looked at one that took place 2.8 billion light years away,

and using that plethora of telescopes,

they linked this burst to a supernova, they think to supernova,

and to Gamera bursts.

Gammaire bursts are thought to come from the formation of a black hole when a

supernova occurs and a massive star collapses. But sometimes you don't get the gamma ray bursts

when a supernova, a distant one happens, and you get x-ray bursts. And they think what happens

now from this research is that the gameraeys can't escape from the thick outer layers of the explosion.

And so they interact with those layers of gas and material and basically devolved down to x-rays,

and that's what we see.

That's the theory.
