Yes, that's very, very much the case, because right before chapter two, he says this in

verse 9 of chapter 1, if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us

from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar and his word

is not in us. So this great, great passage that tells us about the freedom that can be found

through confessing our neek, through confessing our sins and our shortcomings to God,

we can be completely declared cleansed of it because of the grace of God found in Jesus Christ.

And yet, there might be this impression that, well, okay, since all it takes is confession of sin,

then let's just keep on sinning. And the reality is John doesn't want to give off any impression that that's what he's doing. He's not encouraging sin here. He's not saying that you should continue to do it. And so he does say, in verse one, my little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin.
