It's a blessing for us to be able to partner with you and

studying the scripture. And so I want to begin in a word of prayer. Father, I

pray as we come now to look in your word that you would teach us and instruct us.

We are always in need of having our minds renewed and our hearts replenished and so use this study today to sharpen our

Christian life and for anyone who's outside of Christ use this study to bring them into your

kingdom. Father we pray this in Jesus name, amen. Okay guys, first John, Chapter 1.

And today, my plan is we're just going to look at one verse because it's one of the most important verses that we'll be

looking at. It's in verse 9. I want to begin by reading in verse 5 just to get a running start at the passage and the

unit the what we call a literary unit the paragraph starts in verse five and it extends to chapter 2 verse 2. So this verse really finds

itself in the middle of this paragraph and it's so important that I've just got to, as Kent would say, tap the brakes and slow down here.

So, beginning in verse 5, this is the message we have heard from him and announced to you that God is light and in

him there is no darkness at all.

If we say we have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice

the truth.

But if we walk in the light, as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his son
