Hello, my friends, and welcome back to Corinth.

My name is Jared Halverson, this is Unchaken,

and yes, we are studying 1 Corinthians this week.

Last week, we studied the first seven chapters of this beautiful letter,

and today we'll study chapters 8 through 13, and 13 is a masterpiece,

so I hope you hold out to the end.

It's Paul's discourse on charity, tough to beat.

But to get up to speed, let's review what we saw last week,

and hopefully that will lead into our discussion of chapter 8.

Most of what we discussed last week was where the challenges that the saints in Corinth faced,

because of that city's location, location, location.

On that narrow isthmus west of Athens, there was the challenge of unity

because it was a cultural melting pot with all kinds of dividing lines among the saints.

We saw the challenge of immorality, since it was a place of comings and goings

with unmentionable things happening in between.

We saw the challenge of worldliness and materialism,

since it's a major trading center, and there's the haves and the have-nots
