trusted in what they could acquire,

achieve,

possess in this world,

and they sought refuge. Listen to the language in their own destruction.

In other words, those who trust in the riches of this world and the things this world offers

are seeking refuge in that which will destroy them.

Oh, and this is so counter-cultural.

Isn't it? This is so different than the way the world thinks.

The way the world thinks and the way we are prone to think is the more you have,

think riches, think achievements, think position, power, the more you have in this world,

the safer you are, the more secure you are, the better off you are.

And the Bible saying the complete opposite.

The Bible is saying the more you have in this world,

the more you are seeking refuge in your destruction.

How do you avoid destruction? Where do you go for true refuge, not in the riches, the

achievements, the acclaim, the position and power of this world? No.

See the man or woman who makes God his refuge.

That is where life is found. In fact, verse 8, right after this says,
