Genesis chapter 15 verse 1.

After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision.

Fear not, Abram. I am your shield your reward

shall be very great. I love that verse let me me say it again. So this is God coming to Abram in a vision. This is

Genesis chapter 15, a picture of God's covenant with Abram, promised to bless Abram in relationship with him.

And here's how it starts. Fear not, Abram.

What we see God saying to his people over and over and over again throughout his word.

Do not fear, do not fear.

Think about reading Matthew chapter 10 the other day, Jesus says it three times to his disciples

as he's talking about the persecution and challenges

they will face in the world.

He says, do not fear, do not fear, do not fear, do not fear.

And he says it right here to Abram, fear not, for all who have faith in God,

you never have reason to fear but God.

And that's a very different kind of fear than anything in this world.

So fear not, Abram, why not?

Because I am your shield.

Think about that, God saying to Abram, I'm your shield, I'm your protector, I'm your defense.

Who's your defense? God, God is your defense. God's saying,

Abram, I am your defense, your protector, your guard, your reward.

And then he says, your reward shall be very great.
