Zechariah chapter 11 verses 15 through 17

take once more the equipment of a foolish shepherd.

For behold I am raising up in the land a shepherd who does not care for those being destroyed,

or seek the young or heal the maimed or nourish the healthy but devours the flesh of the fat ones

tearing off even their hooves. Woe to my worthless shepherd who deserts the flock. May the sword strike his arm and his right

So just to give a little context behind what we just

read in the first part of this chapter, Zakiriah does what we often see a prophet do in the Old Testament and he acts out God's word as a picture of what God is saying to his people and specifically

Zachariah acts out the role of a shepherd who is leading God's people for their good

favor and union and grace and mercy and the goodness of God.

And then as Zechariah acts this out,

we see a picture of the people
