Joshua chapter 24 verses 14 through 15

now therefore fear the Lord

and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness.

Put away the gods that your father served to be on the river and in Egypt and serve the Lord.

And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve.

Whether the gods your father served in the region beyond the river or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will

serve the Lord. These verses come at a pivotal transition point in the history, story of God's people in the Old Testament as right after this we see Joshua's death and that leads into the book of judges and

we see that God's people in many ways leaderless and turning aside and we'll

actually pray according to judges 17 and 21 in that next episode but here so before we get into the picture of the

judges Joshua looks at the people and he says like your future as a people depends on serving and worshiping the Lord.

And it's true like our future in so many ways. So individually your future my future depends on

serving and worshiping the Lord today like hinges on what happens today in our lives, like revolves around who are we

serving, who are we worshiping. It's one of the reasons why in the prayer

guide for this month leading up to the election one of the

instructions today is just meditate on these verses and then repent of

idolatry in your own heart and your own life like in what ways are we worshiping serving other gods and then for

us to pray that God would save us from idols in our country. So let's do that. God, we start this prayer by saying

you alone are God.
