| 1:24.6 | To understand that, we need to step back into the 18th century, a time when many |
| 1:29.2 | American colonists were proud to be part of the British Empire. This might seem surprising today, |
| 1:34.2 | but the truth is that by 1763, the American colonies were deeply integrated into the British |
| 1:40.4 | Empire, and the colonists did not forget their Britishness. In fact, they were proud of it. |
| 1:46.0 | So let's start with the fact that on average, American colonists enjoyed the highest standard of living in the world at that time. |
| 1:53.0 | British goods were becoming more affordable, thanks to a drop in prices, which meant American consumers had plenty of choices. |
