Ezekiel chapter 13, verse 6.

They have seen false visions and lying divinations. They say, declares the Lord when the Lord has not sent them.

And yet they expect him to fulfill their word.

This whole chapter, Ezekiel chapter 13, is God's judgment expressed upon false prophets,

prophets who claim to speak his word on his behalf.

They say, declares the Lord, like they're going out among God's people saying,

this is what God says.

When, verse 6 says, the Lord has not sent them and they are only speaking their own

words not God's word and this is serious among God's people.

God is extremely serious about leaders among his people

accurately proclaiming his word. This is why when you get to the New Testament and you

see First Timothy chapter 3 qualifications for pastors, elders, overseers in in the church among his people. And the list there of different

qualifications really is for the most part things you would expect of any father of Jesus,

their character qualifications. And they're a good reminder

that pastors, elders, overseers in the church are supposed to be examples of what it means to

follow Jesus. But there's one competency qualification in First Timothy chapter 3. One thing

that an elder pastor, overseer must be able to do. First Timothy chapter 3, verse 2, he must be able to do, First Timothy chapter 3, verse 2, he must be able to teach.

Why this one thing?

Because this is how God leads his people through his word.

And so the pastor, elder overseers' primary responsibility

is to faithfully and accurately teach God's word.
