As I speak to you right now, Jews around the world are either in a local synagogue

or temple praying and fasting, asking God to forgive their sins, confessing sins, and asking him

to have mercy and to inscribe their names in the book of life for another year of life and other

parts of the world.

They have now finished their fast and are eating and are hoping that their prayers were accepted.

It is the most sacred day on the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur, the day of atonement, the culmination

of what are known as the days of all, Yamin no ha'eim, beginning with the sounding of the trumpet on the first day of the seventh month, which becomes the Jewish New Year.

So the Jewish New Year starts with a time of sobriety, a time of repentance, a time of preparing to stand before God.

The great question to ask is, can there be atonement without the shedding of blood, without blood
