But first, the Home Secretary Shabana Mahmoud has announced that the independent inquiry into grooming gangs

will be led by the former Children's Commissioner for England and Longfield.

Lady Longfield is currently a labour peer,

but will drop her party affiliation.

The inquiry, which will cover England and Wales, is designed to investigate the sexual

abuse and exploitation of young girls by men, mainly of Pakistani heritage over many years.

Shabana Mahmood reminded MPs of the sickening nature of the abuse and said the

inquiry must cast what she called fresh light on this darkness. The inquiry is focused specifically
