I've got some exciting news to share.

National Geographic has totally reimagined their popular and best-selling East and West field guides.

They've renovated them with the modern birder in mind,

burders who are carrying smartphones into the field and sharing their sightings online with burders from around the world.

The updated editions include all new text, organized by the latest taxonomy, refreshed art and design, and all new range maps developed in partnership with Ebird.

And they've included Hawaii in the West Guide.

That's over 60 new species added to the National Geographic Field Guide.

But they have not changed the features that people love.

It's still a convenient paper

bag. It still has the navigational info on the front and back flaps and the thumb tabs. The National

Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of the United States and Canada, east and west, are available.

Wherever books are sold, these updated guides are perfect for novice and experienced birders alike.

I am your host, Nate Swick. You may or may not be able to tell. I am a little bit under the weather

this week. I came down with COVID a few days ago, and while I am

on the leeward side of that illness, I'm still working my way back, and for that reason, I'm

keeping the non-interview parts of this podcast to an absolute minimum. I'm not sure how long I can

speak without coughing right now, but the show, she must go on.

This week is the big rarebirds discussion with Tim Healy and Amy Davis. It was recorded before I got sick.

I want to get that to you. One note on that discussion, however, we had some minor technical

difficulties with Amy's track. It stopped recording when she introduced her last bird,

which was number 10 plus one in this discussion. So I ended up having to cut that part out.
