Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori. Today is Monday, September 3rd, 2018 and we begin

with Americans from coast to coast celebrating Labor Day. Unofficially it means sales are on, white is out, and

summer is for all intents and purposes over. Those of you already in school get a day off,

while many other districts wait until tomorrow just to get

started.

The holiday dates back to the 1800s when unions held parades to honor the achievements

of the American worker.

President Grover Cleveland turned the random celebrations into a national holiday

in 1894, with it always falling on the first Monday of September.

Business is booming on Cape Cod this three-day weekend,

and the reason has some teeth to it.

Great white shark sightings in the area have soared in recent weeks, mostly because of an abundance of gray

seals, which happen to be a great white's favorite snack. The chance to see one, presumably

from a safe distance, means the area is overflowing with even more tourists

than usual.

Local businesses are eating it up, so to speak.

They're embracing the Shark Frenzy and selling out of all things Shark Related, like t-shirts, mugs, shark candy, even shark ice cream.

Don't let the muggles get you down. Harry Potter fans, you all know what that means.

But did you also know the boy wizard just turned 20?

Harry Potter and the sorcerer's stone was first published in the US

on September 1st, 1998, 20 years ago this past weekend.
