17-year-old Tracy Lindkirk Patrick had big plans for the future.

Brilliant and driven, the young woman was a senior in high school with plans of going into law.

She had a high GPA, worked two part-time jobs, and wanted to give back to the world.

On March 15, 1989, Tracy went to work the closing shift at a clothing store and never came home.

In what can only be described as a brutal and violent murder, someone viciously stabbed Tracy to death in the store room at her job.

She was discovered by a mall security guard who found the store unlocked with all of the lights on nearly two hours after closing.

For the next 30 years, her case would become one of the most haunting mysteries in the state of Maryland.

Three months after the murder, a man called a private hotline and made a disturbing confession.

Calling himself Don, the man claimed to have murdered Tracy.

That call would later be tracked down to a town not far from where the crime had been committed.

And when the caller was identified, he had no interest in speaking to investigators.

Some believe that Tracy was the victim of a random act of violence while others suggest a crime of passion.

Accusations have flown of a cover-up launched by a powerful figure in the community and a botched investigation.

But the truth has remained elusive.
