4-year-old Nileen Marshall loved playing outside.

The streams hills, grass and forest were her playground and living in rural Montana provided

a very large sandbox.

On June 25, 1983, Nileen was excited to accompany her family to a picnic in the Helena National

Forest.

It would be an afternoon of fun and games, sandwiches and exploration.

Unfortunately, Nileen would not come home.

Sometime around 4pm, Nileen was last seen near a creek less than 100 yards from the rest

of the picnic goers.

When her family came to locate her, she was nowhere to be found, and it quickly became

clear that the four-year-old was missing.

Subsequent searches and investigations would reveal details of an unidentified man seen

speaking with the child in the moments before she vanished.

Over the course of the next 40 years, multiple sightings of Nileen were reported around the

country.

Composite sketches of the man with her sparked investigations into all manner of suspects

and Nileen's family struggled to deal with her absence.

Then came a series of letters and phone calls from a man who claimed not only to have abducted

Nileen in 1983, but that he was still in possession of her and raising her as his own daughter.
