Summary

I am jumpy. I've been scared by my own shadow (no joke). Just last night, I was using my iPhone as a flashlight in the dark, when it illuminated a mirror, and my reflection scared me. Also not joking.

In Episode 8 of the Highly Sensitive Person Podcast, I talk about how some sounds affect me greatly--specifically, loud, sudden, and incessant noises.

From buses to babies to birds (that alliteration was so lucky), I explain what sets me off and why I think it affects HSPs more than others.

Boy, it has been so hot lately here in San Diego. It's about 90 degrees for the past week or so now,

0:32.0

or 32 Celsius, and I do not do well in the heat. My husband often jokes that I have a five degree comfort zone,

0:40.0

that I'm only comfortable when the temperature is just right. I do think I am highly sensitive to

temperature. And another thing I'm highly sensitive to is sound and noise. And that's the topic of

0:51.9

today's episode. And specifically three different types of

0:55.2

noise. Loud noises, incessant noises, and sudden noises. Let's start with loud noises. I've noticed

1:04.1

that buses make a lot of noise. When I'm out walking around on the sidewalk and a bus goes by

1:10.2

and it breaks screech so loudly that my

1:13.9

hands fly to my ears to cover them immediately without even thinking about it.

1:18.3

It's just instinct.

And everyone else is fine.

1:21.8

I look around and nobody else has bothered except me and I just can't believe it.

1:26.9

Another thing that buses do is sometimes when

1:29.3

they stop, they let out this really loud sound like a rush of air and that also hurts my ears.

1:37.0

Of course, sirens of emergency vehicles make me cover my ears. And I'm really annoyed when I feel

1:43.5

like a TV is on too loud. It's almost like

1:46.4

there's this specific level at which the TV volume needs to be. And if it's above that, I feel really

1:52.7

annoyed by it. And a new extremely loud sound that has been bothering me lately is the hand
