This is Handel on the law, marginal legal advice where I tell you you have absolutely no case.

0:15.9

For someone coming into this country and trying to become legal, it's no small deal anymore. It's gotten

0:25.0

more and more difficult. So one of the things that people do is marry an American. That was

0:32.9

always the end-all, be-all. You just married an American and you were in good shape. You made an application.

0:39.3

First you'd get married and then you'd apply for a spousal residency or green card residency based on the fact you were married to an American.

1:57.6

U.S. District Judge Campbell Barker comes in and says, nope. 16 states, Republicans,

2:06.0

led by Republican attorneys generals, challenged the program that would benefit 500,000 people,

2:11.8

by the way, and another 50,000 of their kids. And here is the argument that the states used, because what do the states have to do with immigration?

2:21.8

Well, the state said that allowing those people in is costing us tens of millions of dollars annually for services such as health care, law enforcement, because of immigrants living in the states without legal status.

2:40.2

So there are illegal aliens living in our state that we have to pay for.
