I'm Tori. Today, we're waiting into the story of the summer, the US presidential

race which has taken some very unexpected twists and turns in recent weeks. The election

is now less than three months away and I'm so

pleased to introduce our first guest, former Politico reporter Carla Marinucci

who reported on political news for over 30 years both at the San Francisco Chronicle and then Politico and has

covered both current candidates extensively. Thank you so much for being here

Carla. Hey, thanks for having me Tori. Good to be here. So we need to first of all start off addressing the big

big change that happened at the top of the ticket for the Democrats when President

Biden decided to step aside and endorsed his Vice president Kamala Harris.

Can you explain the kids why this was such a big deal?

This was a historic thing and kids are going to remember this when they're adults.

I mean, it has never happened before in a US election quite like this. We had two

candidates that are kind of old, I'll say it, 78 and 82 years old. There was a lot of pressure

among Democrats for Joe Biden, the president, to get out of the race because, first of all, he had a really bad debate experience.

He seemed kind of slow and not up to the game and

Democrats said hey we need a new candidate we need somebody who can excite the

voters it looked like younger voters especially the ones who are 18 to 25.

They were just not excited about voting for a guy in his 80, in his 80s.

So Democrats put the pressure on President Biden.

He decided it would be better for the country and better for his party if he pulled out of the race.

And when he did, Vice Kamala Harris became the choice of
