Lihaina wildfires. According to the LA Times, Archie Kaleppa has transformed his front

yard into a supply depot that rivals those established by the government and aid organizations.

Water bottles, gas cans, tents, and food are plentiful and free to anyone who stops

by. His was one of the only Lihaina neighborhoods spared by the fires. Just blocked from his

home is the decimated downtown where official security personnel work round the clock to

keep gockers away from the ongoing recovery effort. Archie gained fame as an early adopter

of toe-in surfing, which uses a jet ski to catch up to the towering 70-foot waves known

as JAWS on the North Shore of Maui. But he was also a lifeguard with 30 years of service

in Maui County's ocean rescue. And according to his peers, his biggest contribution to the

surfing world has been helping others. One final note this morning on the tragedy in Maui,

President Biden is planning to travel to the islands to see the damage firsthand on Monday.
