Today is Thursday, August 4, 2022, and we begin with an Arctic shark normally found in

icy waters making a surprise appearance in the tropics.

Researchers studying tiger sharks off the coast of Belize were baffled when they hoisted

up what one biology student described as a weird-looking creature.

The enormous blue-eyed black and wrinkly beast turned out to be a Greenland shark, a species

that can live from 250 to 500 years, mostly swimming in the Arctic Ocean.

The surprising catch is renewing a scientific debate about whether these sharks could actually

live in bodies of water all around the Earth, swimming is deep as 7,000 feet below the

surface, where temperatures are low.

After getting measured and photographed, this seemingly out-of-place fish was placed back

into the sea, where it will turn up next is anyone's guess.

Is there such a thing as being too popular?

In the case of Hyperion, the world's tallest tree, the answer is yes.

Located in Northern California's Redwood National and State Parks, the Guinness World

Record Holder stands at 380 feet 9.7 inches and is now officially off-limits to visitors.

Trespassers face a $5,000 fine and 6 months in jail.

According to the National Park Service, bloggers and travel writers promoting Hyperion

basically caused it to go viral.

Nature-loving tourists and others, less respecting of nature, have damaged the old-growth
