And this week we've got the awesome Joe Zon with us.

Now when it comes to the art of bass building, there are a few Luthiers who can match

Joe Zon's technical knowledge and approach.

You're going to hear the full backstory on how he cut his teeth working at a custom

guitar repair shop in Buffalo, New York in the early 80s,

before founding Zon Guitars in 1981 and relocating to Redwood City, California.

Joe is going to give us the lowdown of his use of his composite and carbon fiber necks,

his work with pickup electronics expert Bill Bartleini,

and his relationship with Zon artists such as Bill Gould,

of Faith No More, Dick Loverin, of Meishugherin, and of course, you'll probably know Michael Manrin,

for whom Joe designed and built the hyperbase, which I'm not sure if you've checked it out,

but you've got to check out Michael Manorin playing Jozons hyperbase.

In a nutshell, it is capable of something like 10,000 tunings.

The bridge, you can alter all the tunings on the bridge,

you can alter the tunings via the headstock.

It's crazy.

In fact, what we'll do is we'll put a video on the

podcast page of this episode of Michael Manrin playing enormous room. It is one of the, in terms of

like solo bass playing, I've never seen anything like it. I don't think I'll ever see anything

like it again.

It's absolutely phenomenal. And in that video, Michael Manarin is playing the hyperbase that Joe Zon built him.
