You're hearing Look a Ghost by Unwound, featuring my guest Sarah Lund on drums.

Sarah joined the Olympia Washington-based band in 1992 and anchored its beautifully discordant songs

with distinctive syncopated beats, performed with a monumental sense of groove.

Following Unwound's dissolution in 2002, Sarah's worked with artists such as Corrin Tucker,

Hungry Ghost, and The Secret Drum Band. She also earned a master's degree in library science and works as a reading teacher.

Recently, she collaborated with her unwound bandmates

to compile reissues of their influential back catalog

for the renowned Numero group label.

I spoke to Sarah at her home in Portland, Oregon,

where she lives with her young son,

teaches drum lessons, and makes delicious soup.

And now my conversation with Sarah Lund.

I mostly grew up in Bloomington, Indiana.

And you spent most of your time in Bloomington with your mom as a kid?

Yeah, well, we lived there all together.

And then when I was like 11, we all moved to Olympia.

I have one brother.
