This John Maxwell who said leadership is influence nothing more nothing less. Your ability to influence people within the sphere of your periphery. It's not about making a nice impression. It's about making an impact. It's about doing your best. I learned how to make an impact from the wisest person I ever met in my life. A third grade dropouts. That third grade dropouts. That's the most important thing to do.

A third grade dropout. The wisest person I ever met in my life who taught me to combine knowledge and wisdom to make an impact was my father. My father taught himself how to read, taught himself how to write. Decided in the midst of Jim Crowism as America was breathing the last gas with the Civil War. My father decided he was going to stand and be a man. Not a black man, not a brown man, not a white man, but a man. St. Nicholas boys, I won't have a problem if you aim high and miss, but I'm going to have a real issue if you aim low and hit.

Quoting Henry Ford saying if you think you can or if you think you can't, you're right. Lessons like me. Son, don't judge people. The tendency of a person is to walk away from somebody that's different from them. You stay there and you get to know them. Vision is the ability to see the indiscipline. Don't judge. Son, you'd rather be an hour early than a minute late. We never knew what time it was at my house because the clocks were always ahead. 30 years my father left the house at 3.45 in the morning. Why daddy? He said maybe one of my

boys will catch me in the act of excellence. Aristotle said you are what you repeatedly do. Therefore excellence ought to be a habit. Not an act. You're going to do a job. Do it right. Do it the right way. Be kind to people. He always told us kind deeds are never lost. Ego is the anesthesia that dens the pain of stupidity pride is the burden of a foolish person. You'll never be a great executive. You'll never be a great teammate. It's all about you. You'll never be a great staff member. It's all about you. Make sure that servant's towel is always big.

12 years ago when Ozzie Smith walked into the hall of fame. He said, I've always been told how average I can be. Always been criticized about being average. But I want to tell you something. I stand here before you, before all of these people not listening to those words. But telling myself every single day to shoot for the stars, to be the best that I can be. Good enough isn't good enough if it can be better. And better isn't good enough if it can be better.

Best while you're struggling rock bottom can also be a great foundation on which to build and on which to grow. Person that gets up off the canvas and keeps growing. That's the person that will continue to grow their influence. Don't ever forget that.

I've got I've got two dogs that will have some long hair. These Australian shepherds. If you let it, if you let it grow and it's so blasted hot. That say sometimes we'll kind of just buzz them and shave them down.

Just to give them a little bit of relief. And so yesterday I was I was giving that responsibility and I'm normally that guy sometimes Terry does it but normally it's hey sit down. So I have to sit down and bend over and they'll sit in front of you and we got one of those little.

And I shaved him down and I realized this morning I got up and I'm like why am I so sore it was from sitting down and bending over is that not weird. I said part is what it is. But it's funny and we talked about this briefly before the show it's funny to see a dog either after a bath. Yeah which they're miserable doing it some aren't. But they're miss what and then the excitement of them running around after it's over that and buzzing them. And just giving them a little haircut. Yeah. How excited they are with their running around in the yard.

Rolling in the grass and are only wherever you know I just want you to see that I tell Greg is one of the only times I like our dog. She will run around after a bath and the joy the excitement and there's something about these two rugs where they'll the in mid stride. They'll just kind of go down their back and it's almost like a crawl right like a slide. And they use their legs to push. And then they jump up and run again.

And then do it. Yeah it is. It's funny. It's funny to watch.

Well so I was entertained a little bit yesterday with that it was it was hilarious to see. And you know you finish one of them you're like and then there's the other one you know and you got two.

But I was able to knock it out they just look weird when you shave them down but I know they feel better. But but but some but so that kind of dog it don't look right you know but it just it looked bad you sent me some you sent me some.

It looked pretty good. It's almost like they're with their big old we like they're looking at you like really but they feel better. Yeah you know they're embarrassed how they look right I mean they're not going to see other dogs.

Is that yet when that when you when you've taken that hair on down very short with dogs is is that yet that they are embarrassed they feel embarrassed because they do have an embarrassment look to them. Yeah they have a shame feel like right hey I might look I look horrible today. Yeah kind of look.

People in the neighborhood they'll walk their dogs a lot and because I have that invisible fence my dogs when they see them they'll take off you like I mean I'm talking about like you bounce in here you know they hear they go and then they stop they stop and they and they just sit there and and the neighbors are like.

It's acting out of the you know they know I'm just like hey they're the dogs they say hey to and I felt sorry for because it's like there was this this one dog I don't know what kind of is it's kind of a nice looking dog and it's like strolling around like you know and it's it's walking and then here they come all shaved down flop and ears and it's almost like they felt better though yeah they felt better but it's almost like you looked over went.

I said way when he gets hair. I start rolling around the car.

I thought of you yesterday. Helms not only because I was shaving the dogs and you might be actually house sitting.
