Hey there, it's Gary Parish. It's Thursday, July 14th, and this is the eye on college

0:16.5

basketball podcast. I got Mad Norlander with me, and we're in the second five-day period

0:21.4

of the July evaluation period. It's now underway. Coaches and assistants are on the road from

0:28.4

coast to coast. Neither of us went out this week. We were both at Peach Jam last week. We'll

0:33.1

both be in Las Vegas next week, but we are home right now. When we recorded the last podcast,

0:39.9

it was late last Thursday night, early on Friday, more specifically several hours before Larry

0:48.6

Brown actually resigned from SMU. In a bit of a surprising slash bizarre move. I don't want to

0:55.2

spend too much time on it, Norlander, because it feels like it was decades ago at this point, but it

it felt weird. It felt tackless. And then the SMU athletic director basically said, I feel

1:40.0

unfortunately compelled to put a statement on this just because this is a major news event with

1:45.7

with our university. And I'm getting a media request. So the whole thing had a weird feel to it.

1:50.1

And for Larry Brown to have done this in the middle of a July evaluation period,

1:54.7

you could say it's typical Larry Brown, but you just don't normally see this happen.

1:59.4

Tim Jankovitch, who is now the head coach, he was the associate head coach

2:03.3

under Larry Brown. He was in Peach Jam the day before. We saw him in those gyms. And so then I went

2:09.1

to the Peach Jam kind of looking around for him. See, I could even talk to him, get a quote,

2:13.3

as you were writing the column on Larry Brown, he had flown back to Dallas late the night before
