Yes, it's that time of year. It can only mean one thing. This year's annual Social Security

0:05.3

Trustees report is out. And I'm about to recap it for you in this, the 69th episode of the

0:09.7

Retirement Planning Education Podcast. Welcome to the Retirement Planning Education Podcast,

0:17.9

where you can learn all about IRAs and Roth IRAs, employer retirement plans,

0:22.9

taxes, social security, Medicare, portfolio withdrawal strategies, annuities, estate planning,

0:28.6

and much more. And now here's your host, Andy Panko.

0:32.9

Hey, hey, everybody. Welcome back. Who's excited? I know I am. Do you know why? It's because one of my

0:39.4

favorite days of the year recently happened. It was the year, it was the day the Social Security

0:45.6

trustees released her annual report about the Social Security system. Woohoo! Yay! Cue the horns and

0:52.1

noisemakers. One of my other favorite days of the year, by the way, is when the IRS releases the tax brackets and rates for the following year. I know, right? You're saying, like, man, what a miserable existence. That these are my favorite days of the year. But they are. One of my other days is probably the opening day for baseball. 1:12.9

I was a Mets fan. I liked Lenny Dykstra in the late 80s. He left to go to the Phillies and that kind of left me

1:18.7

confused, lonely and scared, so I didn't know what to do. Plus there was the lockout around then,

1:23.2

1990, 91, 92, I don't remember, and just kind of lost interest and never went back. So I don't,

1:28.8

like I said, I don't like baseball. As a spectator sport, I mean, enjoy playing it. I enjoy playing

1:32.3

all sports, but as a spectator sport, I just don't get it. But nonetheless, I find it,

1:37.1

opening day for baseball, major league baseball is a sign that winter is informally over. I mean, it's officially over. Spring has already started,

1:45.2

but it's kind of like, hey, you know, spring's here, summer's here. Let's do this. So anyway,

1:49.7

those are some of my favorite days of the year. But this one, today, I'm going to recap for you,

1:53.7

the key takeaways from the 2023 Social Security Trustees report that came out March 31st.

1:59.6

I think it was, for 2023.

2:03.8

This is the 83rd such annual report.

2:05.1

It's a big one.
