But you don't have to do that to appreciate what this conversation is going to be about.

Okay, why did you recommend this book to me?

Well, it changed my life for many different reasons.

I think the best way to start here is just to try to explain what happened to Anthony Ray Hinton and how he dealt with that.

And then we can kind of unpack it. Is that work for you?

And I want to put a disclaimer out with you, my friend.

This book tripped my fury over injustice trigger like few things ever had.

And so I'm going to try to be composed and dignified and stuff during this conversation, because I think that's important.

But so much of the power of this book was the anger that he evoked in me.

And I cried through a quarter of this book with my goofy princess Leia headphones on working in the yard just bawling constantly.

It wasn't the kind of crying where oh, that's so beautiful and tender.

It's the kind of crying where I was just broken down by the cruelty and at a loss with anger at what happened to him.

And so I'm going to do my best, man, but this book moved me in a lot of ways.

And I'm still not quite sure what I'm doing with it emotionally. Fair enough?

Yeah, that's fair enough. I think you got to be careful with those emotions, because I think a big part of like if Anthony Ray Hinton was sitting in front of you right now, I don't think he would want you to feel that way.
