Summary

Paul has been involved with the recovery community since 1988 and has been leading workshops and holding talks for 18 years. He has been assisting those with addiction problems for many years. The 12-step program has some very potent ‘pointers’, which have assisted a few to go beyond the 12 steps. Paul is unwavering in his teaching. His very direct, uncompromising pointing doesn't provide a refuge for entrenched conditioning and the sense of separateness, no matter how convincing that experience may be. "Whatever arises in my mind, I don't let it vouch for me."  "Any form of looking that focuses on an object misses the opportunity to directly be the seeing, and not be identified with the object." Paul's site: ZenBitchSlap. Summary and Transcript of this interview. My name is Rick Archer and my guest this week is Paul Hederman.

0:32.6

Welcome Paul.

0:35.6

I have a little chat group associated with Batgap.com, the blog where I archive all these

0:43.9

interviews. And just the other day, someone said, hey, you should interview Paul Hederman.

0:48.7

And I said, well, it so happens that he's my next scheduled guest. And then several people

0:52.7

chimed in and said, oh boy, Paul Hederman, that should be interesting.

0:57.4

See, you've got a sort of a fan base out there, I guess.

1:01.4

And in preparation for this, I've listened to quite a few hours of your podcast talks.

1:08.8

And I have several observations.

1:12.7

One is you really have a gift for being able to kind of, you know,

1:16.4

carry on a sustained dialogue or a sustained talk, you know, for an hour or so without

1:22.2

repeating yourself and you keep it interesting.

1:24.6

And so I'm impressed with that.

1:26.7

I couldn't do it.

1:28.6

And you don't repeat yourself from week to week for the most part.

1:31.2

I mean, every one I've heard is something new.

1:33.5

So that's pretty cool.

1:35.6

Second thing, I sort of have gathered bits and pieces of your story by listening to these,

1:41.9

and we'll fill in the gaps.

1:43.2

But you mentioned that you, you know um you you mentioned that you you know
