Hello and welcome to episode 61 of Connecting with Walt.

I am your host and is historian Michael Bowling, and I am joined by my co-host, producer, and good friend Craig Williams.

Craig, how are you and welcome back?

Oh, thank you.

Thank you for having me back in the United States and

all that. No, I'm doing good. How are you, Michael? I'm doing well, thank you. And so,

how is Alaska? Did you see whales and dolphins and things? I slept through the portion

where the dolphins were beside our ship, so I did not, I didn't not get to see

them. I did see one orca off in the distance. So that was my first wild orca in person. So that was,

that was pretty neat. Wish it would have been closer. But from, from what we understood, it's one of those things. It's just really

a crapshoot on whether or not you see them. It's, it's, you either end up seeing a ton of them,

or you see maybe one or none. So, and the first time I was in Alaska, I didn't see any. So,

I went in with low expectations on this one. But no, saw a lot of wildlife.

On our whale watching tour that we did in Juneau, we were on a small kind of private vessel where

there was only seven of us on there. And so we were able to zip around the water and get to the whales

a lot quicker than a lot of the big boats that the people get on right off the cruise ships where there's like 300 people all squished together on a boat.

So we had one experience where a whale was actually swam right under our boat.

And when it popped up, it was maybe three feet away from us.

Wow.

So close you could have just reached out and touch it.
