The Robert Gould Shaw Memorial in Boston has been defaced by vandalism.

Why are we mad about that?

Do you know anything about that one? I did my homework. I don't.

The memorial to Robert Gould Shaw and the Massachusetts 54th Regiment was a bronze relief sculpture

but sculpture by Augustus St. Goddains, opposite 24 Beacon Street Boston at the edge of the common.

It depicts Colonel Robert Gould Shaw leading members of the 54th Regiment, Massachusetts,

voluntary infantry. Is it marched down Beacon Street on May 28, 1863 to depart the city to fight in the south?

The sculpture was unveiled May 31st, 1897. It is the first civic monument to pay homage to the heroism of African American soldiers.

Wait a minute. What? So why are we mad about that?

Because this has nothing to do with anyone knowing what they're doing. This is just rank destruction of property.

Has nothing to do with anything. The people who defaced this have no idea who Robert Gould Shaw was.

They have no idea that the 54th Regiment, 54th Massachusetts, volunteer infantry were all black.
