I was thinking this morning as I woke.

I was thinking this morning as I woke of all the things that I have to do today.

I have some business things to do for clients. I have some conversations to have with

members of my work team. I have some conversations to have with members of my work team.

I have my kids to lead in a morning devotional sitting around the breakfast table.

I have a project at our church that I need to go and accomplish today.

It's something I've been meaning to do and kind of putting off.

My wife is out of town this week, so this is the week to get it done.

It just needs to get done.

And as I think about all those things,

I realized in my own heart a number of responses

that are right there striving to churn to the surface.

One of those is stress, a feeling of pressure,

because there's just so many things that I have to get done so many things that are on my plate.

And that feeling of stress is something I think we're all familiar with.

It's something we all know intimately. And I think sometimes we just function

in it rather than stopping to recognize it, and decide, mentally speaking, make a decision that I'm going to deal with this stress.

I'm going to deal with it right later. Now that may be a foreign concept to you. You may think,

well stress just happens, it just comes on me, it's just this feeling in my chest or in my

emotions that I can't really control.

But I want to challenge you to rethink that assumption
