Today is Thursday, June 2, 2022, and we begin with a party fit for a queen.

The platinum Jubilee celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's historic 70-year reign kicked off

earlier today with plenty of pageantry.

First up was Trooping the Color, Her Majesty's annual birthday parade featuring 1,200 soldiers,

400 musicians and 260 horses.

A royal air force fly by followed with members of the royal family looking on from a Buckingham

Palace balcony.

The four-day national holiday includes a special Friday service at St. Paul's Cathedral

and on Saturday, a royal derby and huge concert featuring the rock group Queen, Elton

John and Diana Ross.

The festivities draw to a close on Sunday with thousands of street parties and the main

event, Ed Sheeran singing his ballad, perfect as a tribute to the queen and her late husband

Philip.

High drama and raw nerves are on display at the nation's top spelling bee.

For the first time in three years, the annual script's national spelling bee is back live

in person and with a few changes to make it extra challenging.

When the competition's first round kicked off on Tuesday, the contestants, who range in

age from 7 to 15, not only had to spell words like carry added and pylorus correctly,

they then had to correctly answer a multiple choice vocabulary question, and in a B first,

an eighth grader from Ghana's squirm mid-answer crossed your legs and has to be excused to

use the bathroom.
