Summary

Community matters more than you think. Within six months of launching ChooseFI, Brad Barrett and Jonathan Mendonsa watched their Facebook group balloon past 5,000 members β€” people actively reshaping their financial lives by swapping strategies, celebrating wins, and holding each other accountable. Recording live at FinCon 2017, Brad and Jonathan unpack what fueled that explosive growth and why collective momentum matters as much as individual tactics. They explore how the Friday Roundup transformed passive listeners into active participants, the compounding effect of marginal gains, and why first-generation FI seekers set the stage for generational wealth. The episode also spotlights the role of storytelling in cementing community bonds and accelerating the path to financial independence. Hey guys, today we're going to be playing the episode that we recorded at FinCon 2017 in Dallas, Texas.

This episode is definitely a little bit different. They gave us 25 minutes to use,

0:08.8

so we obviously didn't have time to do a full show. So we basically decided to create a Minnesota.

0:14.6

For those of you that found us at the beginning of this year and have been along for this ride,

0:18.8

we wanted to give you a chance to see what it was like from our perspective at my first FinCon,

0:24.0

and I know Brad has been to several of these, but just to kind of see what was actually going on

0:28.8

behind the scenes, so much has happened for the FI community, for the ChewzefI community,

0:33.2

and this conference was a big deal. So this episode, you know, it's kind of short,

0:38.9

and I'm going to go ahead and let you know ahead of time that I was very enthusiastic,

0:42.5

and my enthusiasm, which normally comes through in the show, was on overdrive for this entire event.

0:46.9

So I guess I can go ahead and apologize in advance, but I hope that this is fun for you,

0:50.7

for those of you that are driving to work today, just something short to get you there on your commute,

0:55.4

and for those of you that are maybe pulling away and needing a few minutes for yourself,

0:59.3

hopefully you'll get some enjoyment out of this, but I hope you have a wonderful Christmas,

1:02.8

And the whole idea behind this end of the year review is that we really want to kind of slow down

1:13.8

and take a look at everything that's happened in this community over the last 12 months.

1:18.5

And if you have feedback that you would like to have played on the show, you're here in this

1:22.8

today, record a clip for us by the end of Monday or early early Tuesday, and we would love to feature

1:29.0

it as part of our end of year review. So what I mean by that is if you found the five community

1:34.0
