Summary

HAPPY NEW YEAR TOP TEACHERS! It is a new year and that means new resolutions (for some). We’ve chatted all about what we think about New Year’s Resolutions and what you can be doing instead on our very first podcast--Episode 001: How to Create New Habits for a Successful School Year.  The hardest part that we have learned is sticking to a habit. Your motivation runs out and you find it difficult to keep up with the routine.  In this episode we are chatting all about what to do when your motivation begins to run dry.  WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR MOTIVATION RUNS DRY 2020 is the year of dying motivation. We’ve felt unmotivated in both our school and personal lives. The reality, and while we may not want to admit it to ourselves, is that much of what we have been experiencing in 2020 is continuing into 2021.  Typically after the holidays we are ready to go back and get into the emotions of work, but this year, motivation is scarce. So how do we find it? Honestly, we have to stop relying on motivation and start depending on our discipline to get us through our everyday tasks. Motivation comes and goes and is dependent on your mood, circumstances and personality whereas discipline will allow you to complete tasks because you recognize that it is your responsibility. Discipline builds habits.  In this episode we get deep and dirty; here are some of the highlights: How people struggle with motivation Where does your motivation drop off during a task: procrastinator, bouncer, deserter The differences between discipline and motivation Remember your why and your greater purpose Discipline will act as a bridge between your goals and accomplishments   SUBSCRIBE & REVIEW Are you subscribed to our podcast? Well, hello there, top teachers. We are your host, Bridget Spackman and Michelle Emerson, and we are here to make you- Oh my gosh. I'm sorry. It's okay. You said Michelle Emerson and it completely took me off guard. I'm sure people listening had the exact same thought. But we are here to make your life easier by helping you master

0:22.2

your time, organization, and productivity as a teacher. So other than listening to me freak out

0:28.5

over the fact that Michelle just said, Emerson, today we are going to be sharing our secret

0:34.9

for still getting things done and reaching our goals when we don't

0:38.8

feel motivated. Come on, guys. We know that you've probably not been feeling as motivated as normal,

0:45.1

especially after this break. So we're hoping that with this episode, we're going to be able to kind of

0:50.2

push you in the right direction to get that motivation back. I feel like this will be an

0:54.8

episode that people will come back and listen to again and again. Like when they feel that

0:58.9

motivation just draining the longer their butt sits on the couch, they hopefully can come back to

1:03.7

this episode and remind themselves. But first, let's hear a TSAH or time-sucking hurdle from

1:10.0

Rebecca. Rebecca says, my TSAH lately is just not

1:14.6

feeling motivated at all. I will make a list of everything I need to get done, but then it's as if my

1:21.2

butt is glued to the couch, no matter how hard I try. I just can't get up and be productive.

1:27.4

I would love to hear any tips

1:28.9

you ladies have that could help me break this cycle. I'm not laughing at you, Rebecca. I'm just

1:34.6

laughing because we have all been there. And I know that exact feeling that you're talking about.

1:39.1

Yeah, absolutely. And Rebecca, I do think that, you know, we've all felt this way at some point this year, right?

1:45.2

Like, this has been a struggle of a year. First things first, I think you really need to determine

1:52.0

why you're feeling this way. Identify the root problem and then start to try to create a plan.

1:58.3

Start small by doing a task that really just doesn't take you a ton of time.

2:02.2

I almost feel that sometimes when we jump ourselves and we start doing little bitty things,

2:06.5

we start to just build that motivation a little bit more easily. So you'll find that the more that
