Hello and welcome to self-work. I'm Dr. Margaret Rutherford. I'm a clinical psychologist out of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

I have been in private practice for about 25 years now, and I started podcasting because I wanted to extend the walls of my practice

not just perhaps to those who are in therapy or have enjoyed a therapeutic relationship,

but with people who might never darken the tour of a therapist, but

are curious about what it would be like.

So this is self-work, and I'm glad you're here.

In this, my 54th podcast, which I still really can't believe,

we're going to be talking about learning from mistakes,

humility.

You know, that song, Always Be be humble and kind was huge I think last year

Tim McGraw and it struck me as so odd that such a simple idea would catch so many

people's imaginations. I think it's very important to learn

from your mistakes. I've made so many of them. In fact my dad used to call now this

is going to sound mean but he wasn't being mean at all.

He would call and ask me how my practice was going and I'd say, dad, you know, really, pretty well, thank you.

And he'd say, well, you've made so many mistakes in your own life that they're not too many you

couldn't understand. Oh goodness and he was right about that. So we're going to

talk about learning from mistakes.
