Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Thursday, October 18th. It is also the feast day of St. Luke,

0:26.9

the evangelist. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we have been exploring what it means to be Jesus Christ's follower.

On Monday, we looked at the example of St. Teresa of Avila

0:39.5

and how we learned from her that in order to follow Jesus, we need to do his work. On Tuesday,

1:58.4

the gospel were disciples of Jesus. They knew him when he was

2:01.9

alive and they followed him. They were one of his chosen apostles. St. Luke was not one of those

2:08.6

people. In fact, tradition tells us that Luke was a Greek, meaning he was not Jewish. He was a foreigner and therefore probably wouldn't have been very

2:20.6

well accepted by the Jews. So he was Greek and he was also a physician, which means he was a doctor.

2:29.2

Being a doctor, of course, in the time of Jesus was different than it is now. They didn't have modern hospitals, and yet he worked hard to take care of people and

2:39.7

ministered to many of the early apostles when they went on their way to spread the good

2:44.8

news of Jesus Christ.

2:47.3

Now, St. Luke did not only write the gospel of Luke. He is also given credit for writing the
