Let's MasterEnglish.com. Today's expression? Thrift shop. I'm going to the thrift shop. Where did you get your jacket at the thrift shop? I'm taking these old clothes to the thrift shop.

Thrift shop, let me spell it for you, T-H-R-I-F-T, and then S-H-O-P.

A thrift shop means a shop that sells probably mostly clothes, but they might sell dishes and other things too, but they sell it very cheap and almost all of the clothes are used. Not all of them, there are some clothes that

are new, but they're very out of fashion. They're very old.

Or they're used.

And I'm sorry, there's nothing wrong with used clothes or old clothes.

You can save lots of money and you can get some very nice clothes at the thrift shop.

That is true, though.

Sometimes you see somebody wearing something new and you know that it's not actually new.

It's probably old.
