Your listening to Fox Sports Radio. I coach I talk about this sometimes I coach a little league baseball I coach low level little league basketball.

Basically my kids right so my 10 year old is on a little league baseball team and I am not the head coach I am the the assistant coach I'm the third base coach so I wasn't involved in drafting the team.

It's not as if I am you know making every single decision but I'm pretty involved.

We started off the season 5 and 2. Lot of smoking mirrors and our 5 and 2 record. As the coach I was not very convinced that we were that good of a team but we finished in third place.

And there is I'm it's 9 10 year old boys baseball there is a minor leagues for the kids that are not quite as good and then there's a major leagues in the 9 10 division with 6 different teams.

So we're sitting at 5 and 2 getting ready for the playoffs which everybody is in right now and we have since dropped 4 games in a row by a combined score of 45 to 4 we have lost these games 45 to 4 we lost 15 to 1 we lost 7 to 1 we lost 13 to 1 and on Monday night in the playoffs.

We lost 10 to 1 to the team that came in last place in the league and so during the I swear to God this is true during the game the head coach is giving a pep talk we're getting drilled it's like 8 to nothing or whatever it is.

And he calls all the kids over to the side and he says and we have tried to push every emotional button positive negative on Saturday we got drilled and one of our guys got picked off first base it shouldn't even be possible to get picked off first base because you can't even lead.

And I asked when the kid got picked off first base to end the inning we're getting drilled it's like 10 nothing in that game to he comes jogging off the field and I'm like I just say hey what were you thinking any immediately starts crying and so I don't even know I just said the same level same way you just got picked off first base in a league you can't even lead off first base or second base or anything else what were you thinking how was this possible.

And he just starts to cry that's kind of the season in a nutshell all right so I don't know what to do it's tough to sit there and just watch everybody get drilled on the third base coach early in the game we're losing like one nothing my own son is on third base there's a pass ball and I'm like go go and he doesn't go and we would have scored to tie the game up maybe we change the momentum a little bit and he's standing there and I'm like why didn't you go.

And he said why didn't think I was going to make it and I said I'm the coach that's my job you just listen and go my own son won't even listen to me at third base so the head coach calls everybody over we're losing like eight nothing and I swear to God this is true he opens up the door you know like the the fence door whatever you know to go into the field.

The gate whatever you want to call it like un latches it opens it up and he says hey guys if any of you don't want to be here right now you can leave you don't have to keep playing the rest of the season if you want to leave the doors open raise your hand if you want to leave only 10 kids on the team all right raise your hand if you want to leave.

I swear to God our starting pitcher raises his hand. Our starting pitcher raise I've never seen any kid ever do that before in the history of sports the head coach gives the hey if you don't want to be here speech I've heard this speech my entire life as a athlete going all the way back whenever you're playing poorly you're sitting in the locker room coach will come in and it can be before a game after a game.

Season's not going well I've heard this version of this speech my entire life hey we're all in this together if you don't want to be here you can leave and so if you don't want to be here raise your hand and I swear to God our starting pitcher raises his hand and I'm like trying to give him the you know put your hand down sign kid like you I've never seen like this is how how out of whack our team is the starting picture who literally just came off the field.

He's in the game pitching right now he raises his hand and says he doesn't want to be here anymore.

I don't know what to do we play tonight and I I I 45 to 4 is I mean you can only give up five runs in an inning the math on losing 45 to 4 in four games is tough to pull off when you can only give up five runs in an inning.

I mean it's tough to get beat this bad I don't know what to do what happened to the mercy rule the mercy rule exists but I'm saying the total over the last you know whatever it is we lost 15 to one we lost seven to one we lost 13 to one and we lost 10 to one so we're getting mercy ruled like the game ends you know they they have a running clock our games go in an hour and a half yeah and basically as soon as you get past the fourth inning if you can't catch up the game.

But you know you get to play usually for an hour and a half although every now and then they just the umpires just call the game or whatever I don't even know what to do have you ever bit like what I don't know what what what motivational tool to push at this point in time.

The other thing I should say is that you know with this elimination game tonight a part of me candidly is just ready for this to be over I I'm getting driven insane I mean if you're the coach and you're losing 45 to four and it's like bad news bears on steroids I don't even know what to say when they're coming in and off the field you know like every half inning.

But when the when the pitcher raised his hand and said he wanted to leave during the game I've never seen a player ever do that before have you guys I'm sure you guys in your careers have heard your coaches make the hey if you don't want to be here you can leave speech have you ever heard a player like raises hand and basically want to leave no I mean I would have got slapped across the head I don't even know what the what the response to that is I think you're screwed right there.

And this is the reason this makes me think back to when magic Johnson tried coaching the Lakers for a little bit if I were watching this team play I would be demanding the entire coaching staff be fired and frankly like I imagine the parents are sitting in bleachers watching like I was too you know what nobody wants this job you care too much
