Good morning, and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori. It's Tuesday, May 18, 2021, and we begin

with a strange hum coming from outer space. NASA scientists just revealed this curious

discovery that's reportedly been detected more than 14 billion miles from Earth. Well,

not exactly a noise, but more of a vibration. It was picked up by the Voyager 1 spacecraft,

which has been exploring the cosmos for more than four decades. Scientists don't yet know

what's causing the hum, but say this new finding, with details recently published in the journal Nature

Astronomy, is providing a never-before-seen glimpse to a distant frontier well beyond our solar system.

Here's a new way to help the environment, back here on Earth, turn dandelions into rubber tires.

It turns out the pesky we that kids love to blow on to make a wish is an excellent substitute for

conventional rubber, made from rubber trees, which take a long time to grow, unlike dandelions.

The process of using the hardy plant was first tried during World War II, but fell out of favor.

Now a major tire company in Germany is reviving the practice using the root of a certain species

of the plant from Russia. The company's dandelion tire for bicycles just won the German Sustainability

Award for Sustainable Design. It hopes to make these types of tires for cars and trucks in about

five to ten years. We've covered self-driving cars. Now we can report on self-driving tractors.

A startup company in Livermore, California has built the world's first all-electric self-driving

tractor that can plow, harvest, and mow for up to ten hours on a five-hour charge.

The company says this will help make farming greener with clean air, reduced water use,

and saving thousands a year in labor and fuel costs. Over the next two months, farmers in

California, Washington, and Oregon will test out these vehicles and commercial production may start
