Good morning, and welcome to Kid News! I'm Tori. Today is Tuesday, May 9, 2023, and we begin

with graduation season upon us as thousands of students receive a diploma to mark the completion

of their studies. But one person who will be handed his diploma next week actually finished

his studies 80 years ago. Frederick Taylor, who is now 101, was learning about music education

at Cornell College in Iowa when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, prompting the U.S. to enter World

War II. Taylor joined the Army Air Corps, and though he completed the requirements for

his degree, couldn't attend the graduation ceremony due to Army training. After the

war, he became a music instructor for elementary, middle and high schools, often leading school

bands at graduation ceremonies, which reminded him that he'd never been able to participate

in his own. This spring, his daughter contacted Cornell College, and they were happy to make

special arrangements to include Mr. Taylor in the ceremony next week. The retired music

instructor tells The Washington Post he is tickled about the upcoming event, with his

daughter adding, it's the best kind of closure.

Tech Boss Mark Zuckerberg has a new title, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion. The founder of

Facebook apparently became interested in mixed martial arts during the COVID pandemic,

and he announced on his Facebook page two days ago that he won some medals in his first

ever tournament. He also gave a shout out of thanks to his trainers. A website for the

sport called Jits Magazine reported the 38-year-old snagged gold and silver medals in the Whitebelt

Master II lightweight division. It wasn't clear exactly though when or where the tournament

took place. The mystery of hundreds of pounds of pasta dumped in the woods of Old Bridge,

New Jersey, appears to have been solved, at least partly. Photos of the mounds of uncooked spaghetti,

macaroni and noodles, softened by rain, were shared millions of times on social media last week,
