Good morning and welcome to kid news. I'm Kim. Today is Thursday, May 7th, 2026. And we begin with a classic school memory of your parents

making a comeback. President Trump this week signed a bill to revive the presidential physical fitness test.

That means soon you all might be hitting the track for a timed mile run, banging out a certain

amount of sit-ups in a minute, or powering through push-ups. The good news,

you can't fail, but those who score 85% or above get the Presidential Physical Fitness Award.

The fitness requirement for school-aged kids had been in place for decades until former

President Barack Obama replaced it with a program focused on long-term student health

rather than physical performance. The sweaty fitness standard goes into effect immediately

for schools on U.S. bases before possibly rolling out to public schools across the country.

We may be turning a corner in the conflict with Iran. As of this recording, officials in Washington, D.C.,

and the Iranian capital of Tehran were working on a one-page memo of understanding to end the war and set a framework for more detailed negotiations, according to a report from Axios, which cited two U.S. officials and two additional sources.

As proof of progress, Iran's Navy posted that it intended to ensure safe passage through the

critical strait of Hormuz. The stock market soared and the price of oil plummeted on the news,

but gas has a long way to go before returning to pre-war levels. As of yesterday, the average cost of a gallon of

regular hit $4.53, up more than $1.50 since the conflict began in late February.
