And the Hello and welcome to Disney Story Origins episode 4A Mulan part one. They say to choose a hair you pick them up by the ears. There are telling signs to compare.

In the air the male will kick and strike,

while females with bleary eyes will stare.

But if both are set to ground and left to bounce in a flea, who will be so wise to observe that

the hair is a he or she?

The U-E-Fou Legend of Mulan. The Oh, The Oh, In the rich tradition of legends that originated centuries ago and survived to this day,

the story of Mulan is one of the most mundane of all Chinese folk tales.

In ancient China, with folklore rife with magic, gods,

demons, dragons, and all kinds of supernatural influences, it was the plausibility of

Mulam that made it such a compelling story.

With Mulam, Disney broke their own mold, unless you can name another Disney princess

who picks up a sword and fights and kills.

And make no mistake, in Chinese folklore and in Disney story

Mulan takes many lives. Though her story has changed through the centuries

its core elements remain constant. A young girls' elderly and

sickly father is called up in the draft. He is too old and ill to go off and fight, but they

have no alternative. The father must go to war.

Mulan decides to serve in his place. To do so, she will need to disguise herself as a man.

By the time Mulan's tale was first inked onto a scroll, it had already gone through centuries

of development and change, and Disney's version is just another of many versions.

Depending on who wrote it, when, where, and the genre in which the version was created,

each telling of the story is unique and brings its own viewpoint and meaning.
