0:15.1	Night has fallen on the desert, our strange and beautiful North American desert.
0:23.3	And we have begun our third year of broadcast and podcast from the Little Mojave Town of Joshua Tree.
0:34.7	So whether you're new to the program or have been with us since the beginning,

0:49.9	Due to the chaos in our national parks, chaos which is not the fault of the good people who work for the parks and the national monuments and the preserves our rangers and educators and park archaeologists and maintenance crews and all the many biologists and botanist and other scientifically qualified employees and contractors who do so much important work on our public lands.
1:18.7	Well, due to the chaos, a lot of people have been asking Desert Oracle whether they should or should not visit Joshua Tree and other beloved natural treasures
1:30.3	of the American West during this idiotic and pointless wreckage of the former world
1:35.8	superpowers government.
1:38.9	If this shutdown of the federal government drags on, you will enjoy your desert road trip a little bit more if you skip
1:47.3	Joshua Tree National Park and all such national park lands during this hopefully temporary
1:53.7	nightmare. A holiday or vacation or wilderness adventure should not be a source of sorrow,
2:04.8	should not be a source of stress from having to pick through the garbage world of political news
2:12.3	to find out if you can go take a walk around the boulders and cactus.
2:16.6	It is one of the corrosive evils of our current situation that everything has to get
2:23.5	dragged into the filth bubbling out of the Oval Office that burst and broken septic tank
2:30.5	spraying sewage from coast to coast.
2:34.4	Going to the desert wilderness, whether you're Moses or Georgia O'Kee for a brain-fried
2:40.9	office worker, should be a respite from civilization, even if that civilization is crumbling
2:47.6	right before our eyes.
2:50.4	Let it crumble in the rearview mirror.
2:57.6	At least during a road trip.
